CTS Body Armour system

Concept of Use – The CTS Body Armour system is comprised of two components:
the Fragmentation Protective Vest (FPV); and
the Bullet Resistant (BR) plate set.

The FPV is designed to provide, primarily, ballistic protection from fragmenting munitions and debris resulting from high explosive detonation or other explosive devices. The FPV will replace a variety of vests currently in-service.

Description – The project is to acquire an improved ballistic performance vest which is lighter, more comfortable, and that corrects the deficiencies of the in-service variants. These deficiencies include lack of flexibility, reduced compatibility with weapons and equipment and poor task functionality. The FPV was ergonomically designed to be worn over the IECS combat jacket and under the Tactical Vest (TV). It consists of front and rear modular carriers, with removable collar and shoulder protectors. Ballistic performance of the flexible ballistic inserts must be greater than or equal to the current in-service protection levels at reduced weight.
